OSR Communication Kits include an assortment of professionally selected Object-Symbols. Each Object-Symbol represents a specific, common daily activity. With use and practice, the individual learns to recognize and understand the meaning of each Object-Symbol. As the number of known object-symbols grows, so does the individual's vocabulary. For example, when presented with the spoon-symbol, the individual thinks 'eat.' Similarly, when presented with the key-symbol, the individual thinks 'car ride.'
Persons of all ages and abilities very quickly learn to ObolSpeak as they associate new object-symbols with an ever-widening array of life's activities. With mastery of each new Object-Symbol, the individual develops a useful and functional vocabulary one Object-Symbol (one thought...one word...one activity) at a time.
OSR also offers high quality, Communication Boards, Eye Gaze Boards, Choice Boards, Daily Schedule Boards and an Object-Symbol Organizer to support you in developing a functional communication system. Each Communication Kit and all our Boards come with easy-to-follow instructions for teaching and using Object-Symbols.
